Casas Viva

One of our most challenging and innovative projects, Casas Viva provides temporary housing for teenagers who are at life risk or using harmful drugs.

The housing units are designed to respect teenagers’ dignity and encourages them to be independent, preparing them for the challenges of adulthood.

THIS PROGRAM WAS CREATED IN COOPERATION WITH THE SECRETARIAT OF SOCIAL ASSISTANCE AND HUMAN RIGHTS OF THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT OF RIO DE JANEIRO. THERE ARE FOUR UNITS, IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS OF BANGU, BONSUCESSO, PENHA AND DEL CASTILHO.

TEENAGERS ARE MONITORED BY TEAMS COMPRISING TEACHERS, NURSES AND SOCIAL WORKERS. DRIVEN BY AN ALTERNATIVE STRATEGY TO THE LOGIC OF ABSTINENCE, THIS PROGRAM SEEKS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF HEALTH SERVICES OFFERED, TO DEVELOP A SOCIAL AND COMMUNITARY ENVIRONMENT AND TO ENSURE ACCESS TO THE SERVICES TO WHICH ALL CITIZENS HAVE RIGHT TO. ASSISTED TEENAGERS CONTINUE TO BE MONITORED EVEN AFTER THEY LEAVE THE PROGRAM.
