CAPS

Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS) treat the mentally ill and people who abuse alcohol or other drugs. These community outreach centers provide a multidisciplinary team and their doors are always open to anyone in need. The teams assist patients at appointments, visiting the locations of drug abuse, taking them to individual therapy sessions and providing temporary admission at the center for intensive care purposes.

Viva Rio runs the units in Rocinha, Alemão, Guadalupe, Madureira, Bonsucesso and Botafogo in cooperation with the municipal government of Rio de Janeiro.

CAPS provide intensive, semi-intensive and non-intensive treatment for people whose mental health conditions cause them suffering or prevent them from building social ties and planning their lives.
